My Approach
Life is a long, winding road filled with challenge, but with enlightenment and love as well. I agree with Joseph Campbell that we are all engaged in a hero’s journey, and it’s our task to figure out who we truly are and to live our best life.
With a direct and encouraging style, I work to promote symptom relief for unhelpful behaviors and negative thinking, while at the same time probing the deeper layers and origins of the presenting issues. Educated in many different therapeutic theories and modalities, I tailor my approach to each individual or couple’s needs, combining the best of cognitive behavior and mindfulness techniques with a psycho-dynamic, depth psychology approach.
My primary training is in family therapy, which has a core premise that we are all deeply connected to one another and are profoundly influenced by our family’s history – both its troubles and its strengths. As a warm and curious companion in this process, I work with you to investigate the inner dynamics of your personal story and to instill a renewed sense of hope and possibility. We look closely at self-limiting patterns of belief and behavior, and we focus in on your strengths and inner resiliency. In a non-judgmental environment, we address your specific goals, and help you to uncover your inner, vibrant self so that you may connect more deeply with the loved ones in your life, and with the work and activities that feed your sense of life's meaning and purpose.
